Archeological Museum

It is impossible to get acquainted with the city and not to know its history. The mysteries of the Odessa region will slightly be opened to you by one of the oldest museums in Ukraine - Odessa Archaeological Museum. Collecting of antiquities was always considered in South Palmyra a business worth of respect. The Odessa «museum of antiquities» stores more than 160 thousand exhibits. In addition, here there are collections of relics of Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Rome, various coins and medals.

The exposition at the museum is arranged by analogy with the human evolution: at first you get acquainted with the epoch of homo sapiens appearance, and after that - with civilizations that had inhabited Prichernomorye( A region near the Black Sea).

The building itself carries you to the ancient times. The design of the building resembles Hellenism forms of antiquity: enfilade of halls, olive-grey columns, steps made of hard Trieste stone...

The archaeological museum entered the literature, as well. It was described in «Gold calf» by Ilya Ilf and Evgeniy Petrov. The main character of the novel - Ostap Bender -visited the «museum of antiquities», do not pass by!
